Every January we post a list of the priciest luxury homes sold on Chicago's North Shore during the previous year.
In 2017 the North Shore's top ten highest priced home sales ranged from $4,300,000 to $7,500,000, with a median price of $5,100,000 (+25% vs. 2016). Four of the homes were lakefront properties and one was new construction.
These luxury properties also represent a variety of architectural styles, from Mediterranean to contemporary to English manor style.
Four of the houses were in Winnetka, three in Lake Forest, two in Glencoe and one in Wilmette. Surprisingly, none were in Kenilworth, one of the most affluent zip codes in the nation.
Here's our top ten list, from lowest to highest price:
#10. 855 Rosemary Road, Lake Forest - $4,300,000
Designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw and reminiscent of an English country manor, this 10,000 square foot mansion on almost two acres was built in 1909. It has been recently restored and modernized for today's lifestyle. It has seven bedrooms and six and a half baths and has been both restored and modernized to accommodate today's high tech and energy-efficient lifestyle.
Architectural features include the triple gable facade, a vaulted barrel ceiling in the entry hall and several sets of French doors opening to an Italianate veranda that overlooks a sweeping lawn and fountain framed by a boxwood hedge and roses.
#9. 910 Private Road, Winnetka - $4,375,000
This is the one brand new construction home in the top ten. Built by Winnetka's premier luxury home builder, Heritage Builders, this 10,600 square foot East Winnetka home has seven bedrooms, eight and a half baths and all the bells and whistles Heritage homes are known for: gourmet kitchen, wine cellar, media room sport court and exercise room. Materials and craftsmanship are high quality, but the design follows the same formula as the other Heritage homes in the area.
#8. 1460 Lake Road, Lake Forest - $4,550,000
This French manor home on 2+ acres with views of Lake Michigan sold before it was even entered into the MLS, so there are no photographs available.
It's too bad, as the exquisite architectural details, soaring ceilings and six marble fireplaces would have made for great photos!
#7. 35 Indian Hill Road, Winnetka - $4,900,000
Another English manor dating from the early 1900s, this enchanting home sits on two and a half acres in the Indian Hill
neighborhood, and has its own spring-fed lake.
Features include a DeGiulio kitchen, a luxurious master suite with his and hers closets, sitting room, deluxe spa bath, exercise room with vaulted ceiling, a pool, a custom pine panelled library, a banquet-sized dining room and a 4-car heated garage.
#6. 1235 Whitebridge Lane, Winnetka - $5,080,000
This stunning lakefront home sits on almost one acre down a secluded lane on the North end of Winnetka and has 126 feet of private beach. Designed by Gary Frank and built in 1996 it has a magnificent first floor master suite with enormous closet, bathroom and laundry room. The lower level features an indoor pool and spa, dressing rooms, exercise room, rec room and second kitchen, as well as a sundeck overlooking the lake.
#5. 441 Lakeside Terrace, Glencoe - $5,150,000
This contemporary glass house was designed by Tony Grunsfeld to take full advantage of the views. In fact, from the moment you step through the front door you are treated to vistas of Lake Michigan. And you can enjoy these views from virtually every room of the house.
I'd work out too if I could look at this view from my elliptical.
#4. 346 Grove Street, Glencoe - $5,175,000
This 11,000 square foot estate looks like it was transplanted from the Hamptons and exudes casual luxury. Custom-built in 2008, this 17 room house has six bedrooms and nine and a half baths. It features a chef's kitchen, two-story panelled library, indoor spa, screened in porch, exercise room, movie theater, sport court, pool, hot tub, and pool house.
Also on the estate is a modern barn, built in 2010 with a large rec room, kitchen, guest suite and two-car garage.
#3. 973 Sheridan Road, Winnetka - $6,187,000
This Mediterranean style villa was built in 1991 on almost two acres of lakefront property that runs from Sheridan Road to a gorgeous private beach on Lake Michigan. And if a private beach weren't enough, there's also a pool, as well as a tennis court, so no need to join a country club.
If you also happen to be a car nut, you'll be happy to know there is a 5-10 car garage!
#2. 261 E. Onwentsia Road, Lake Forest - $6,400,000
This spectacular home designed by Darcy-Bonner has a California coastal vibe and a very open feel. It took three years to build and no detail was overlooked in the design and construction.
If I lived here we'd have wine tastings every night!
If this isn't enough to give you closet envy, I don't know what is!
#1. 15 Linden Avenue, Wilmette - $7,500,000
The inside of this house is very nice, of course, but what really differentiates it is the setting. Not only is it on the lake but it has expansive table land with exquisite landscaping and so many places to enjoy the incredible views.
