While the bleak December weather has returned, the holiday merriment continues throughout the North Shore to warm our spirits! Multiple holiday fests (with Santa sightings), gingerbread workshops, a holiday healthcare fair (brilliant), a holiday singalong and a toe tapping performance round out this weekend’s offering of events and activities!


Holiday Fest
Dec. 8: 6 – 8 pm
Skokie Heritage Museum, 8031 Floral Ave., Skokie 

The celebration starts at the Skokie Heritage Museum with live reindeer, elves, photos with Santa, carolers to crafts and more. Donate winter coats, hats, and gloves in good condition, or non-perishable food item to benefit the Niles Township Food Pantry. For more info: 847-674-1500, ext 3000.

Downtown Evanston Tree Lighting
Dec. 9: 5 – 8 pm
Church Street Plaza, intersection of Church St. & Maple Ave., Evanston 

Join Mayor Hagerty, Santa and Mrs. Claus to enjoy an evening of musical performances, holiday cheer and watch the tree light up at 5:30pm. After the Tree Lighting from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, warm up with hot chocolate and take photos with Santa at The Crystal Ballroom (529 Davis St.) or Mrs. Claus at The Hilton Garden Inn (1818 Maple Ave.) For more info and a schedule of events, click here.


Holiday Healthcare Fair
Dec. 9: 10 am – 3 pm
Heartwood Center for Body, Mind and Spirit, 1818 Dempster St., Evanston 

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of holiday activities and enjoy some healing services including acupuncture, massage, reiki and more. There will be food, music and artists selling their work. For more info, click here.


5th Annual Holiday Singalong
Dec. 10: 2 – 5 pm
Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave., Winnetka 

Now in its fifth year, this holiday celebration is the perfect antidote to the pressures of the season. The program features many of the holiday classics and includes some Chanukah songs as well as little known holiday facts. The focus of the program is fun for the whole family. Holiday Extravaganza
Dec. 10: 3 – 6 pm
North Suburban YMCA, 2705 Techny Rd., Northbrook 

The North Suburban YMCA welcomes the community for an afternoon of festive holiday spirit. Take free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy activities and treats, and enter in the raffle to win your favorite wreath from the Y’s “Deck the Halls” display. Chicago Tap Theatre: Tidings of Tap!
Dec. 10: 3 pm
North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie 

Come see why hundreds of Chicago families have made Tidings of Tap! their new holiday tradition. Featuring rhythm and whimsy-filled dance interpretations of your favorite Christmas, Hanukkah and winter songs, this is a fun yet sophisticated, family-friendly evening that you’ll be talking about all year! Gingerbread House Workshops
