Glenview is located approximately 18 miles north of downtown Chicago, just west of Wilmette and south of Northbrook. Its population is just over 45,000 and the median family income here is $120,598. It has more business and commerce than the villages closer to the lake and is home to large companies such as Kraft Foods, Aon Corp., Scott Foresman and Illinois Tool Works. It is also known for its excellent schools and for The Glen, a 1,121 acre mixed use redevelopment of the old Glenview Naval Air Base.
There is a broad range of housing available in Glenview, from condominiums and town-houses to single family homes of all sizes. Architectural styles range from ranches, split-levels and Cape Cods to Colonials and Tudors. Many homes are older but there is also a considerable amount of new construction. In fact, all of the housing in the Glen is new construction.
Single family homes in Glenview range in price from $136,000 to $2,175,000 with a median selling price of $490,000 during the first six months of 2010. Condominiums and town-homes sell for between $55,000 and $590,000, with a median selling price of $210,000.

Most Glenview high schoolers attend Glenbrook South High School (District 225). Those who live on or east of Harms Rd. attend New Trier High School (District 203). Those who live in a small portion of Glenview south of Central Rd. attend Maine East High School (District 207).
Glenview Montessori School is a private school for children 2-6 years old and was one of the first Montessori schools established in Illinois.
The Grove is a unique outdoor history and nature museum covering 123 acres. It was the home of noted horticulturist Dr. John Kennicott, who settled here in 1836 from New Orleans. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Glen, a redevelopment of the Glenview Naval Air Base (which was closed in 1995) is a planned community comprised of residential, retail, entertainment, office and light industrial. The Glen is also home to the Kohl Children's Museum, which houses 17 hands-on, interactive exhibits for children birth to 8 years old.
The Glenview Senior Center, at 2400 Chestnut Avenue, offers recreation programs, classes and services for seniors.
Glenview is located between the Edens Expressway (I-94) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and drive time to downtown Chicago is about 30 minutes. Commuters can also board the Milwaukee District North Line Metra train in North Glenview (The Glen) or Glenview (1116 Depot St.) for a 35 minutes train to the Loop.
Glenview is also served by the PACE suburban bus system.
Glenview was the home of candy heiress, Helen Brach, at the time of her disappearance in 1977. Her body was never found.
